The first commercial flight takes place from Israel to UAE, with a significant role in normalizing after announcing the peace deal. The Israeli El Al airliner is confirmed to make a 3-hour trip carrying Israel and the US officials. Previously, Saudi Arabian airspace was blocked for the Israeli airlines, now the peace deal’s flight crossed the same after receiving the permission.
In 1948, Israel received recognition from the third Arab country from the Middle East, with the peace deal with UAE.
Israel has been boycotted since 1972 by UAE and other Arab nations. Previously, in the last month, two countries opened telecom services with Israel, and now UAE repealed the boycotting law too. On 13th August 2020, the agreement for normalization was made public by a surprising announcement.
Flight LY971 is selected for representing the international dialing code of UAE and is carrying several delegates, including the senior advisor of Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, and son-in-law of Mr. Trump too. It is also carrying the National Security Advisor of Israel, Meir Ben-Shabbat.
The UAE-Israel agreement is the result of the secret talks leads by Mr. Kushner.
To develop co-operation further between UAE and Israel, the Emirati representatives will meet the joint teams. Also, the return flight is to be numbered LY972, carrying the international dialing code of Israel.
The three-hour flight for Monday took 70 years to be finally confirmed, and with this, it marks a complete turn in the Arab world and Israel’s relationship. Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, hailed the flight’s arrival as an example of growing “Peace if Peace.” With this, he implied to his long believed notion of trading occupied land to bring peace and harmony between the Arab nations and Israel.
This was appreciated and welcomed by several communities internationally. Still, the Palestinians denounced Israel’s recognition by UAE without a condition for their state’s creation, and they considered it a betrayal.
Mr. Netanyahu agreed on suspending the controversial plans to take over the parts of the occupied West bank that is the land claimed by Palestinians for their future state’s development.
Previously in 1999, a north-west African member of the Arab League, Mauritania, established diplomatic relations with Israel, which was later severed in 2010. Hence, currently, UAE, Egypt, and Jordan are the three countries in the Middle East that officially recognize Israel after signing the peace treaties.
