Artificial intelligence has recently come into the limelight due to the advancement of technology. As the world is developing at a fast pace the older applications and devices are becoming obsolete and in no time in the coming future would be permanently deleted as if they never existed. Most of us think that artificial intelligence is the same as machine learning. Let me put it to bed for once and for all. No, it is not. Artificial intelligence and machine learning are two different aspects of technology. Also, all those great minds out there who think that artificial intelligence as some kind of intelligence that a machine already has to operate itself and perform functions. Then you are in for an even bigger disappointment because it is not like that even in any parallel universe.

 

For everybody who thinks that way, artificial intelligence is that part of science that functions or operates on its own only and only by studying patterns. To make things more conspicuous, let us pick an example of a robot that has to cross a path but there is a table in between. Now how will he compute that he does not have to strike the table in between? It will happen only when he would hit it multiple times unless he realizes that there is only one way to cross it in those hundred tries he hit the table. This way a pattern is set in its system that if he would go this way he would not hit the table. The whole game is about studying and implementing patterns to have an optimal solution for the program. This is called artificial intelligence.

 

Our prime focus today is not to sleep over the fact of what is AI but to find out what all devices use this AI technology in our daily life and find out their benefits as well as flaws that we never know even existed.

 

Smartphones: This is one of the few things that every kid around the corner uses. This device has become one of the most important things in human history to ever exist. But have you ever wondered how does it work using AI? Well, it is simple when you use your smartphone it learns and recognizes your patterns using large datasets. These are further implemented to learn the behavior of the owner of the smartphone. You can also see an AI-enabled mode in the camera section of your phone which allows you to take finer and smooth pictures on the go. AI is used to activate voice commands on the operating system that is running on your phone. Depending on the type of OS it may be ‘hey Siri’ or ‘ok google’ for iOS and Android respectively.

 

Computers/laptops: the concept used in a laptop or your personal computer is somewhat similar to that of the smartphone. There is a whole new set of variables that mentions the exclusive feature of AI into their systems. AI in your system to be used to recognize your daily needs such as launch the most frequently used applications faster, most frequently contacted people at the top of the list, and improve overall application interface. All this is done by the patterns studied.

 

Security systems: now this is new to the table. How is AI implemented in security systems? The security system of a workplace works day and night. There are so many things that come under security and this is the main focus of most of the industries these days. AI can be used in UAVs and UGVs for continuous monitoring of subjects. The artificial intelligence in the security system includes recognizing speech patterns and also movement patterns to limit human intervention as much as possible. While fingerprint security came a long time ago in the market, retinal scan, facial recognition followed. This is being heavily sighted upon because human-machine communication is going to increase in the future.

 

Smart cars: the automobile industry is no behind than its fellow communities. They have tried and also started implementing artificial intelligence in the safest way possible. The AI concepts in smart cars or vehicles right now are limited to the navigation sector. The AI works in incorporation with the other IoT sensors and cameras and ensures a safe driving experience for the drivers. The traffic patterns are studies thus providing an optimal way to reach your destination and also the sensors and cameras installed warn about any nearby objects or persons to prevent you from bumping your car. Everything is the game for AI.

 

Video games: This is something that is growing rapidly and has already become popular with the masses within no time. Whenever you switch on your game be it any, you always notice a practice mode. That practice mode is what AI is. It is used to generate adaptive or behavioral responses, especially in non-human players. It learns all the tactics that you use and then uses the same on you. Again, it is all a game about patterns. Pathfinding and decision trees are used to implement artificial intelligence in almost all of the video games these days.

 

Smart home devices: another intriguing application of AI is in smart home appliances. From smart speakers to smart lighting systems all of it has the basic foundation as artificial intelligence only. All of these devices learn the human behaviors for a frictionless working. The patterns that they study include your voice, search history, browsing habits, and items, and much more you could probably imagine. All of these smart devices are mostly speech-enabled which means they won’t work unless a specific wave value of sound is provided to them which they recognize as the owner. All of those voices that are fed into the system will only be picked up and the devices will work accordingly otherwise it maybe anybody else in the world if the amplitude and the frequency do not match the one which is fed into the system, is going to not affect. So it is a waste of time to even try.

 

Healthcare: the use of artificial intelligence is a breakthrough in the healthcare industry. For many ages, the healthcare department has tragically suffered because several times it has happened that due to lack of technology the diseases were not even diagnosed let alone finding a cure for them. With artificial intelligence-enabled systems and machines, it has become so much easier to match the disease with the cure available for it. The hospitals and healthcare departments have infused AI into the system in everything from management of the records to the machines that detect the disease. Life has become so much easier with AI.

When it comes to the applications of AI we have not even scratched the surface yet. But is this going to be efficient enough? With almost mind-boggling concepts of the use of AI, there are some major loopholes or you can say blunders that the AI-enabled devices to bring along with it,

 

For starters, artificial intelligence is such a vast area where you do not even know if you are going in the right direction. AI is such an expensive game that for most of the industries it is becoming to implement and even if they were able to do so somehow, the market is not ready yet to accept it with open arms. Also, we have seen news of things going south when it comes to new inventions. When two robots were designed using AI but had to be destroyed as they started talking to each other in their language. 

No matter how much good a robot can be but it can never replicate a human efficiency to work and sort out things. We are humans and we do know where the line is and not to cross it but those are machines with no life judging skills. This could result in a great gory and we in no way want that to happen. Machines cannot be creative because after all it is a machine and they can only be taught things or they can study patterns and learn but they can never produce something of value into this world. To err is to human is a perfect saying, no matter how many mistakes we make we can always find a solution to them.

 

The biggest concern for most of the people with the advancement of technology is unemployment and that is true because as the world is growing machines have already taken over various sectors making many people unemployed. AI might have its perks but is not something that has to be taken lightly it has made our life easy and there is no denying in that but if things go wrong it can make our lives living hell as well. Though, it is not an undeniable fact that AI has made our lives easier in every field. This was all about artificial intelligence and the devices that use it.
